Commercial / Core & Shell / Building Repositioning

I served as Job Captain and a major design contributor for the repositioning of 657-667 Mission, stitching together two early-20th-century buildings into a single modern office property. The challenge was as much about integration as renovation: the two structures had different construction systems, distinct street identities, and floor levels offset by nearly three feet.

I led extensive design studies for the Mission and Minna Street façades and played a major role in designing the building cores, new inter-building connections, and rooftop amenity deck, working closely with the structural team as the buildings were opened up, reinforced, and connected. The façade process alone involved repeated iterations to give each building its own character while making the combined property read as a coherent whole.

That continuity later became a competitive advantage when Gensler pursued Unity Technologies’ headquarters buildout: I was brought onto the competition team in part because I knew the base building from the inside out, carrying that knowledge from the developer-led core & shell project into the tenant workplace design.
